about me

I'm a self-taught, published photographer with over 20 years experience shooting analog and digital portraiture, events and music, and documentary and environmental photography with interests in conceptual, experimental, and fine art photography, traditional and alternative process techniques, color theory, and digital design.

Specialized in covering local music, concerts, festivals, events for the Austin American Statesman and Austin360.com (Cox Communications) for over 8 years, assignments include SXSW, ACL Festival, Austin Film Festival, ATX Television Festival, Fun Fun Fun Fest, Austin Urban Music Festival, Austin Reggae Fest, Psych Fest, Maverick Music Festival, and Old Settler's Music Festival.

I'm a current member of the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP), Professional Photographers of America (PPA), and National Press Photographers Association (NPPA), and a contributing photographer to Getty/WireImage. My work has been published digitally and in print in the Austin American Statesman and XL Entertainment weekly (currently Austin360 weekly), Austin360.com, Austin Music+Entertainment, Austin Monthly, Boston Globe, NY Daily News, Al Jazeera America, E! Online, PopSugar, TV Guide, and People Magazine.

I've established successful professional working relationships with some of the top Marketing, Public Relations, and Event Productions firms and entertainment venues in and outside of Austin, including the Austin Film Festival, SXSW, Emmis Communications (KLBJ Flashback Prom) and Viacom. I am also a proud supporter of HAAM, Project Transitions, Austin Free-Net, SafePlace, local music and the arts.

When I'm not in the photo pit I can be found rediscovering the Austin scene with my camera, good friends, and my righteous and veracious English Bulldogs, Fat Boy and Peabody.

artist statement

My images are a deeply personal form of self-expression. They are an intimate translation of what lies between my lens and my mind.

For me, it is about bringing out the beauty, sadness, or excitement in what surrounds me, and translating my ideas into an art form. The colors and textures I choose are selected to create a subtle emotion that compliment the subject rather thantransform it.

In my portraits, the subjects I am drawn to possess natural beauty, innocence, and subtlety. They are delicate representations that possess a dreamy, childlike sense. I prefer candid shots that capture natural expression – spontaneous, uninhibited, and unreserved.

I am drawn to detail in expression, in textures, and colors, and in sentiment. I attempt to communicate the emotion of my images in less obvious ways, and find myself drawn to dreamy, understated treatments.

I am inspired by many forms of photography and alternative process techniques and attempt to incorporate variations of these into my digital images. My ambition is to create images that return the same sense of emotion for the viewer as it has for me as an artist.
